I started looking for you
Thirty-six hundred and
Fifty days ago. For the
First eighteen hundred
And twenty-five days,
I didn’t really look that
Hard because I had work
I needed to do to
Prepare for your arrival.
But the last eighteen
Hundred and twenty-five
Days have been spent
Looking everywhere a
Heart could look to find
It’s other half. You see,
I figured out how this
Works. Each heart is
Meant to find one other
Heart that connects,
Fits together as one,
Completing the other
Like a key slips
Easily into a lock.
Most hearts seem
Happy if the key just
Fits. But the special
Hearts know when the
Key opens the lock.
It happens rarely and
That is why there are so
Many broken hearts.
Keys that don’t fit and
Locks that were never
Meant to open.
Our hearts met for the
First time just
Seventeen days,
Eight dinners
And sixteen poems ago.
But who’s counting?
Our Lock and key were
Forged so long ago no
One is counting how
Many times I say
I love you.
